JENS ZYGAR

Born right in the dawn of the aquarius close to the river Rhein near by the dutch border JZ left Germany (because his father did) and he came to live in Liberia, Westafrika where he spent his childhood. Probably this rooted his love for drums, rhythms and dancing. When he got back to Germany, he started to play guitar in a new-wave rock band GROßE FREIHEIT in HAMBURG where also the beatles started their career. He tended to follow his visions and dreams and discovered his talent for holistic activities. In 1985 he founded the KLANGHAUS, a holistic institut for sound research, therapy and performing arts. At that time he started to work with gongs and meditation - technique. It was even earlier, that he met HANS COUSTO who introduced him with the concept of the COSMIC OCTAVE and it was in 1989, when Jens contacted the company PAISTE, the world largest producer for cymbals and gongs. Together they invented the PLANTARY GONGS. Recordings as well as writings by Jens Zygar can be found from that time.

In 1989 he met STEVE SCHROYDER on a festival in suisse and from that moment on , he dedicated his life to the STAR SOUNDS ORCHESTRA. He expanded his rhythm - activities to the field of electronic drumming as well and even an ongoing research on the effects of sound on the human mind, boby and soul is his purpose for living.

Steve Schroyder

Born in the north of germany in 1950; he dedicated his life to cosmic space music everysince he knew such thing as music exists and he is looked upon as a pioneer of electronic music.

In the early 70ies he discovered the syntheziser to be his instrument to realize his visions of space music. He was a recoding artist on the legendary albums ALPHA CENTAURI (1971) and ZEIT (1972) with the masters of TANGERINE DREAM. This period of the BERLINER SCHULE epoche gave him his first public experiences in being a cosmic musican. Followed by recordings on the SEVEN UP album, the first psychedelic recording with the presence of TIMOTHY LEARY done with the band ASHRA TEMPLE he hit straight off into the psychedelic universe and travelled around the world. After that very free period he discovered Freiburg in the south-west of Germany to be a perfect place for him and he started his own electronic music studio, the OXO, which is operating until now. Times of ongoing technical developments in the aerea of elcetronic music as well as study of the concepts of music, led to the foundation of his band AUGENSTERN, which created some very beautiful producations like STRAHLEN; BLÜTENKLANG; SKYDANCING. All of these albums where succesful in the New - Age scene around the world.

A new chapter arised, when he met HANS COUSTO, the author of the COSMIC OCTAVE in 1987. He got aquainted with the concept of sphere harmony and he started to create music, that was in resonance with the astronomical vibrations of the planets of our solar system. The 2 CD album KLÄNGE, BILDER, WELTEN presented the different tunes of the earth and the moon and the follow up album SUN - SPIRIT OF CHEOPS, which transfered the harmonic structures of the pyramid of cheops in relationship with the basic tuneing of the sun was a milestone within the genre cosmic music. Steves connection with the new age scene got even more intense, when he did the serie MUSIC FOR BREATHING together with FRITZ DOBRETZBERGER, also a creator within the inner circle of the COSMIC OCTAVE. Under the name STARSOUNDS-PROJECT they realised the translation of astronomical horoscopes into music. Close to 50 individual symphonies derived from that cooperation, Steve´s way into the global world as a cosmic musican reached a furher level when he met the gong musican JENS ZYGAR in 1989. Both were fascinated by the topic of the COSMIC OCTAVE and they together began to cooperate under the name of STAR SOUNDS ORCHESTRA.This unique sound - combination of electronic music together with acoustic planetary tuned gong music led to band, that from the very first moment of its existence fascinated listenors all over the planet.

PLANETS was their first album in 1991 and presented the tunes of the planets of the solar system. This straight planetary ambient album had some follow ups like KOSMOPHONON and another popular sound track for a holistic TV - show. In 1983 a scandalous production called ACID TEST ended their career as a main stream new age band and SSO entered the underground of electronic music again. They still released a final planetary tuned 2CD ?LIVE IN LONDON" which documented their intensene live-ambitions of playing long concerts, in which they tuned the audience in resonance with the vibrations of of the planets. In the mid 90ies the STAR SOUNDS ORCHESTRA signed up with the world most known psychedelic underground label SPIRIT ZONE and released the albums PSY FORCE and OOZ. This was a new period of music, as the two planetary musicans integrated kicks, offbeats and trancefloor attitudes into their music. Since then, worldwide lice-activities are documentated and made SSO being a unique festival annd party burner. After the breakdown of Spirit Zone they switched to the english label Y.S.E. and released a 2 CD album MUSIC FOR QIGONGDANCING, a album that shows both side of the bands creativity, trancefloor killer hits and very smooth meditation music. In the times of global changes within music-industrie, own label operations can be expected. In the year 2006 You can still find Steve Schroyder giving concerts together with his mate Jens as STAR SOUNDS ORCHESTRA all over the world and you won´t miss the chance, to explore this true pioneer of cosmic electronic music.
